Family Practice Clerkship Objectives:

The student will:

  1. Develop skills diagnosing and managing common medical problems across the life span.
  2. Apply these skills with recognition of the importance of the patient’s family and other social factors.
  3. Become skilled in computerized management of patient data, medical references, patient education, and preventive care systems.

  2. Seeing common medical problems in the ambulatory setting and developing diagnostic and management plans under appropriate faculty supervision.
  3. Participate in morning Inpatient Medicine rounds.
  4. Actively participate in group learning sessions including case-based conferences and small group sessions with behavioral science and pharmacology faculty.
  5. Participate in community outreach by going to school talks with a resident and faculty.
  6. Attend other resident "skills sessions" as the student’s schedule allows, such as nursing home visits, diabetic education, etc.
  7. Observe and, when possible, participate in common office procedures such as colposcopy, LEEP, vasectomy and biopsy/removal of skin lesions.
